Testimonials
It is with great pleasure that I write of our experience with harp teacher Giuseppina Ciarla. My daughter Willow (age eight) began taking lessons with Giuseppina at age six. Willow, who has also been taking piano since the age of two, started taking harp lessons a year and a half earlier with a different teacher who left our region. After a year and a half with her first teacher (who was wonderful) I was a little concerned that making a transition to someone new might be difficult. I needn’t have worried! From the very first lesson, we fell in love with Giuseppina. I can honestly say that Giuseppina has a tremendous gift not only as an accomplished harpist, but as a skilled and intuitive teacher. She understands exactly how to inspire and motivate Willow. She easily reads where my daughter is during her lessons and pushes or pulls back appropriately. Giuseppina stresses the importance of proper technique and sets goals for Willow while never losing sight of the real reason people play music, for its sheer joy and beauty. Giuseppina incorporates a variety of games and activities into her lessons to reinforce each musical topic including aural and written theory and keeps Willow interested and excited to continue. She always is sure to include me in the lesson so that I can direct Willow’s harp practices. Giuseppina is delightful, enthusiastic, patient, down-to-earth, interesting, gentle, smart and incredibly talented. It is truly an honor to have her as a harp teacher and I know that she is laying down a solid foundation for Willow’s mastery of this beautiful instrument.

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Giuseppina Ciarla. My daughter began harp lessons with Giuseppina approximately one year ago. The progress that she has made during this time has far exceeded our expectations. I feel that this is, in no small part, due to Giuseppina’s talent, enthusiasm, patience and creativity as a teacher.
Giuseppina has a talent in gauging her students’ knowledge level and ability. She selects several lovely songs to play for my daughter, and allows her to choose what piece they will work on next. She customizes the music and lessons to my daughter’s current skill level while simultaneously providing challenges to keep the learning process moving forward. If there is a particular song that my daughter wants to play that is beyond her current ability, rather than dissuade her, Giuseppina patiently breaks the song into bites and lessons until it is mastered. By customizing and tapping into my daughter’s interests, Giuseppina manages to create an excitement, incentive and motivation to practice and learn new, more difficult tasks.
Giuseppina is constantly learning new techniques which she incorporates in her teaching. She uses these techniques to give her students a fully rounded music education with instruction on every aspect from technical to performance.
In summary, Giuseppina Ciarla is a gifted harpist and dedicated teacher. She is well known and respected in the Sarasota Arts Community. We are extremely fortunate to have a teacher of her caliber in our area and I wholeheartedly recommend her as a harp teacher.

"…we don't just play music with our hands but with our hearts. The greatest gift music gives us is the ability to express our innermost feelings with creativity and joy, and to share them with others!”
